International Year of Forests

The Organization of the United Nations (ONU) proclaimed 2011 as the International Year of Forests, after 2010 have been the International Year of Biodiversity, described as a "very positive balance" by the Secretary of State for Environment, Humberto Rosa.

This year's theme is "Forests for the People' and the aim is to raise awareness of sustainable forests management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests. Over the next 12 months, raising awareness will be promoted worldwide.

This year we will continue all activities under the Project-LIFE Sustainable Laurel for the recovery and conservation of endemic forest of the Azores, one of the most threatened ecosystems, on wich depend several unique species of Macaronesia.

There are several measures over the years in which to participate and contribute to this project. Check the website of the Environmental Center of Priolo here.
