The project LIFE Sustainable Laurel has as main objective the protection of existing natural habitats in Special Protection Area (SPA) Pico da Vara / Ribeira do Guilherme, including the Laurel Forest of Serra da Tronqueira and the high altitude Peats of Planalto dos Graminhais. This project is a partnership of the Society for the Study of Birds, with the Secretariat for the Environment and the Sea and the City Council of Povoação (Island of São Miguel - Azores) and is co-financed by the LIFE Financial Instrument of the European Community.
